Green Party Candidate

Tonight I officially became a candidate for the Green Party of Canada.

I will be representing the green party as a federal candidate, and I know that this will be a learning experience.

I have little political background, but what's more important than that is that I have an extensive 'green' background, and I'm serious about this opportunity.

Obviously this means that I'll be very busy with my campain, preparing for the (probable) spring election. You will probably see about one monthly post out of me, and as always, you can e-mail me directly if you wish to get in touch.

For those of you who are curious, below are some links to sites, including a few green party pages.

Trust me... I'm a politician.

Good luck in your campaign.

There's a Canadian Green Party Blogroll that you may be interested in.

I think another GP candidate is there ... "Herbinator".

I'm still a Red Tory, so I'm going to stick with the Cons. :)

This is a bit of their story in Canada...

In the 2004 federal election, the Green Party fielded candidates in all 308 of the nation's ridings and received 4.3% of the popular vote. In the 2000 election, it fielded candidates in 111 (one third) of the then 301 ridings.

Due in part to the country's first past the post electoral system, no Green Party candidate has ever been elected at the federal or provincial level in Canada. It has, however, grown faster proportionally than other parties, and on occasion, it has polled as high as 19% in British Columbia, 9% in Ontario and as high as 10% federally.

Interestingly, they are fiscally conservative, and have been called 'green conservatives', or 'blue conservationinsts', a nickname that's not too far off the mark.

Oh boy, I sound like a politician already.
